- Author: Antoine Boucher (https://antoineboucher.info/CV/index-en.html)I submitted my master's thesis at ÉTS. The work is real-time simulation of surface wear, at the meeting point of physical simulation, contact, and graphics rendering.

## The degree in one line

Master's degree in Information Technology Engineering ([ÉTS program page](https://www.etsmtl.ca/en/study/deuxieme-cycle/maitrise-genie-technologies-information)), August 2023 to September 2026. Thesis topic as it appears on the CV: real-time surface wear in interactive physics simulations, with dynamic friction and textures.

## What the thesis connects to

- The contact model: friction that depends on direction and on the material pair, which is also the thread through my [upstream pull requests to IPC Toolkit](https://antoineboucher.info/CV/blog/posts/ipc-toolkit-contact-library/#my-contributions).
- Measured surfaces: the [TrueMapData](https://antoineboucher.info/CV/blog/posts/truemapdata-height-maps/) tooling reads height maps that describe real worn surfaces.
- Rendering the results: [MistubaVideo](https://antoineboucher.info/CV/blog/posts/mistubavideo-rendered-video/) turns recorded poses and surface fields into frames and video.
- Conferences: the work was presented at [GraphQuon 2024](https://antoineboucher.info/CV/blog/posts/graphquon-2024-ets/) and [GraphQuon 2025](https://antoineboucher.info/CV/blog/posts/graphquon-2025-university-of-toronto/).

## Thanks

Sheldon Andrews supervised the thesis. Paul Kry, Yinchu Liu, Loïc Nassif, Nicolas Rosset, Quoc-Minh Ton-That, Alexandre Mercier-Aubin, and Mélissa Katz gave advice and help through the project.

The technical write-up on wear in texture space is coming soon. The [thesis article](https://antoineboucher.info/CV/blog/posts/thesis-wear-texture-space/) has the current project overview.
